29 Dec 2020 Reading Challenge
On Your Mark, Get Set, Goals!
As 2019 winds down and we think about 2020 resolutions, it’s a good time to start thinking about reading goals. Creating a list of books for the new year is very exciting and there are many reading challenges available to inspire you. Library staff have particularly enjoyed the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge!
Although individual challenge prompts change every year, the goal is always to read 40-50 books. This sixth annual iteration starts with a 40 book challenge with prompts from “Bildungsromans” to “Books on a topic you know nothing about.” Those who want to dive deeper into the challenge can take on 10 more “advanced” prompts. This year, each of the extra prompts center around 2020. Altogether, this challenge presents a great way to explore books that diverge from your regular reading habits.
Resources to Help You
If any of that sounds intimidating, take heart! Library staff would love to help you find books to fulfill any reading challenge. Whether in person, over the phone, or through the May We Suggest page of the library’s website, our staff will help you connect with your next read. We love to help readers discover their next book and enjoy the added challenge of finding books that fit a specific prompt.
There are several online resources and communities specifically centered around the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge. If you have a Goodreads account, you can join a group such as this one. Or if you prefer Facebook, POPSUGAR has created a public group to post updates, prompts, and encouragement throughout the year.
No matter how you find your 2020 books, we hope you discover something new and exciting along the way. Have a happy new year and we wish you all the best on your reading goals!
