Are you ready to see the trees turn color? If your children are very young, they may not remember, or expect the trees to change colors. What an interesting conversation you can have about trees together! Maybe you can take a walk in the park, then take the same walk when the trees are in fall colors. Happy Fall!
At the Library
Get into the fall mood by attending Tot Tuesday: Fall Is Not Easy on Tuesday, September 24 at 10 a.m.
We will read Fall Is Not Easy by Marty Kelley, a funny seasonal story about a tree that changes color in some unusual ways. The leaves look like a happy face, a pumpkin, red-and-white stripes, and more. It’s a short, rhyming story outside the usual mold of stories about fall. Kids will enjoy participating as the tree changes over and over again.
Do you see how the whole treetop looks like an apple?
After the story, kids will make their own fun treetop using paper, yarn, and glue. In process crafts, it’s about the experience rather than the end result, so it might also look like some random pieces glued on by a happy kid who loves to use a glue stick!
At Home
This story is a popular flannel board. If you’d like to make your own version to enjoy with your child, or want to know more about the story so you can tell it without the book, there’s some inspiration at Storytiming, Flannel Friday’s Fall Pinterest Board, or Storytime in the Stacks.
