French Storytime and language resources

One of the most impressive things about people is our ability to learn a multitude of new things over the course of our lives. This applies to knowledge that we learn in and out of school, as well as hobbies we may pick up in our free time, like sewing or baking. It also applies to our ability to learn new languages and use them in our everyday lives. With programs like Duolingo and Babbel growing in popularity, it’s not surprising that the world is becoming more and more multilingual every day.
However, did you know that PGTPL currently has database links to programs like Rosetta Stone and Mango Languages that patrons can access via our website’s Online Database page?
We also have a World Languages collection in our Children’s Room including languages like Arabic, French, Hindi, Spanish, and even more. These books are always available for patrons to check out. Many of the books are bilingual, in that they include text in the original language as well as English, so readers have the chance to strengthen their language skills in more than just one language.
Furthermore, on Thursday, November 11, we will be having our very first French Storytime in the Children’s Room from 4:30-5p! French Storytime will build vocabulary skills in French and English through reading French picture books with an English translation.
In the end, learning new languages  allows us to better understand the way language works as well as the world around!
