How often do you have the opportunity to ask questions about someone’s life in a non-judgmental setting? The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library was proud to host the Human Library Organization for one such event on Saturday, April 8 in partnership with the Hendricks County Community Foundation, Hendricks County Alliance for Diversity, and Hendricks County Pride. This event brought in locals from across the Indianapolis area to volunteer as human “Books”, sharing their unique life experiences with program attendees.
Attendees had 11 different topics to choose from, including Minister, Dual-Disabled, and Survivor of Human Trafficking, each representing one of the human Book volunteers. The attendee and human Book then had 30 minutes to hold a candid conversation, discussing life, its difficulties and joys, and more. Those who attended o
n Saturday commented on how much they appreciated the opportunity, and thought that “more people need to experience the Human Library to learn about others’ lives.”

“This was a great opportunity for folks to sit down together and maybe gain a new perspective from hearing other people’s life experiences,” said Montie Manning, Library Director “We would certainly consider having another event in the future.”
