05 Nov 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at PGTPL
Reading to young children has many benefits.
Academically, it teaches them how books work, helps them identify letter sounds, and increases their vocabulary.
Socially and emotionally, sitting and reading with a caregiver strengthens the bond between adult and child and deepens the child’s sense of safety and trust, laying a solid foundation for development and growth.
Plus, reading together is one of the five early literacy practices that helps your child be ready to read on their own when they get older!
So how can you and your child stay motivated to read every day and make your reading time even more fun than it already is?
Sign up for PGTPL’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program!
It’s as easy as registering online or at the Children’s Desk at the library, getting your reading log, and then marking off a box every time you read (or re-read) a book.
For every 100 books you complete, you’ll get a sticker for the mural at the library, and special prizes are awarded for key milestones.
One thousand books might sound like a lot, but just one book a day will get you to 1,000 in about three years. Increase that to two or three books a day, and you’ll reach 1,000 in no time!
So whether your child is one week old or three years old, sign up today and be on the way to 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten … and all of the many benefits that come with it!
