What is the Summer Reading Club?
The Summer Reading Club is a summer-long literacy and library awareness initiative that encourages people of all ages to actively engage in their library and community. Pre-registration for the Summer Reading Club begins early May, and the program runs from June 1st – July 31st. The Summer Reading Club begins with a kick-off party from 5:30-7:30 on Thursday, June 1st, and this year the theme is “Summer Reading Club 2017: Build A Better World!”
How does SRC work?
Children:
Includes ages:
- Birth – Pre-Kindergarten (Babies & Toddlers)
- Kindergarten – 2nd Grade (Early Lit)
- 3rd Grade – 5th Grade (School Age)
1. Sign up online or at any public service desk.
2. Get a BINGO! sheet from a staff member in the Children’s Room, starting June 1st. This BINGO! sheet contains everything you’ll need for this year’s program.
3. Play BINGO! Once you complete a BINGO! bring your card in to the Children’s Desk in the library to get a prize. Prizes will be available until the beginning of the school year.
*Do you miss setting a summer reading goal and logging your books? You have the option to use the back of your BINGO! card to track your reading.
Teens:
6th Grade – 12th Grade
1. Sign up online or at any public service desk.
2. Get a BINGO! sheet from a staff member in area T, starting June 1st. This BINGO! sheet contains everything you’ll need for this year’s program.
3. Play BINGO! Once you complete a BINGO! bring your card in to area T to get a prize. Prizes will be available until the beginning of the school year.

Adults:
Ages 18+
1. Sign up online or at any public service desk.
2. Starting June 1st, for each book you read, drop an entry form into the prize box of your choice, located in front of the main desk. One book = one entry.
3. Prizes will be drawn the first week of August.
Who can participate?
Anyone can participate! You don’t have to live in Plainfield or have a Plainfield library card.
Participation is organized into age groups:
- Babies & Toddlers (birth-pre-kindergarten)
- Early Lit (kindergarten-2nd grade)
- School Age (3rd grade-5th grade)
- Teens (6th grade-12th grade)
- Adults (18+)
When is it?

When is the Kick-Off Party?
The Summer Reading Club kick-off party is Thursday, June 1st from 5:30-7:30pm. There will be lots of fun games, activities, and food for kids and families.
How do I get a SRC shirt?
The Summer Reading Club T-shirts (for babies – 5th graders) will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, at the Summer Reading Club kick-off party on Thursday, June 1st from 5:30-7:30pm.
What are the prizes?
- Children: After you complete a BINGO!, come to the children’s desk to get a FREE paperback book and a prize from the treasure chest.
- Teens: After you complete a BINGO!, come to area T to get a a FREE paperback book and a prize from the treasure chest.
- Adults: For each book you read, you can enter your name to win one of many prizes… check back soon to see what they are.
When does it end?
Summer Reading Club ends July 31st. However, prizes for children and teens will be available until the beginning of the school year. Prizes for adults will be drawn the first week of August.
What can I read?
Anything! You can read library books, your own books, Little Free Library books, comic books, newspapers, magazines, eBooks, or you can even listen to audiobooks.
