20 Jun Coming Soon! StoryWalk at Hummel Park
Read a picture book and enjoy a local park!
If you love reading as a family, check out PGTPL’s brand new StoryWalkⓇ at Hummel Park! This exciting project officially launches with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, July 1 at 2 p.m.
The Library developed the StoryWalkⓇ in partnership with Guilford Township. The Duke Energy Foundation, the Hendricks County Community Foundation, and the Friends of the Library sponsored the project.
A StoryWalkⓇ presents a picture book page by page along a trail, read while moving from display to display. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
The StoryWalkⓇ at Hummel begins at the playground and follows the trail towards the Splash Pad. The displays include a complete picture book with early literacy activities to enjoy together and a list of suggested books to read! The StoryWalkⓇ will feature a new book every month throughout the year, including interactive stories and books that connect with local and seasonal themes.
Because a StoryWalkⓇ encourages both literacy and movement, it’s a perfect activity for families to enjoy together at Hummel Park. Developing a sense of wonder and lifelong love of learning are key for early childhood success, and a StoryWalkⓇ is a unique way for families to grow and bond in a natural setting.
