14 Sep Fall-Winter Construction Update
This Fall and Winter most of the HVAC system is being overhauled with new chillers, water pumps, condensers, and two new air handler units being replaced.
Overall the project is expected to take about 71 days; work begins on Monday, September 23rd and runs through Tuesday, December 3rd.
The first few days will be spent installing temporary cooling units and delivering dumpsters and other related equipment. Demolition of the old equipment starts soon thereafter and is expected to last up to two weeks.
A crane will be onsite for 2-3 days around mid-October to lift the new equipment up over the Children’s Department and into place. Due to safety issues, this will necessitate the closure of Simmons Street and the Children’s Department for an as yet unspecified period of time while the crane is in operation. We do not anticipate a full closure of the building as of yet.
Once the chillers, water pumps, condensers and air handlers have been moved into place, installation begins followed by a period of fine tuning the system. This is expected to take about 44 days with the process wrapping up by Tuesday, December 3.
