15 Jul Film Club: Raising Arizona
New Program
We are so excited to get a new series of programs off the ground starting in August! Film Club is starting up! In this new club, we will focus on a specific directorial filmography: watching it movie by movie, and hosting a discussion of the movie afterwards.
Coen Brothers
The first directors being featured are Joel and Ethan Coen, the legendary writer/director team behind Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and No Country for Old Men. We’ll be starting with Raising Arizona, the brothers’ 1987 comedy about a kidnapping in Arizona. It’s the Coens’ second film, and it bears several characteristics that would soon become very familiar to moviegoers all over the world. It also features familiar faces such as John Goodman and Frances McDormand, who would both go on to star in other Coen brothers films.
Film Club will kick off on Saturday, August 10, at 1:00 p.m.in the West meeting room. After we watch Raising Arizona, we will have a discussion of the movie. We hope to see you there!
