Peacock Girls Art Exhibit to Showcase at Plainfield Library

The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library is proud to announce an upcoming art exhibit featuring the works of three local sisters, known as the Peacock Girls. This unique showcase will be on display from July 5 through August 31,  2024, located on the second floor of the library at 1120 Stafford Rd., Plainfield, IN.

The Peacock Girls of Plainfield are a trio of sisters – Carol (Peacock) Stahl of Greenwood, Rita (Peacock) Wells of Greenfield, and Alice Peacock of Plainfield. The sisters bring a rich heritage and diverse artistic talents to this exhibit. The Peacock Girls are the daughters of Ashton Peacock, an accomplished artist and electrical contractor, and Mary Peacock, a pianist, choir participant, and seamstress. The sisters have continued their parents’ legacy of creativity and community involvement.

Eldest of the Peacock sisters, Alice Peacock, graduated from Indiana University with a degree in elementary education, expanded her artistic skills during her time as a Christian missionary in Argentina. She retired in 2015 and returned to the United States, where she now focuses on watercolor floral designs.

The middle sister, Carol (Peacock) Stahl, graduated from Ball State University with a degree in art education, dedicated 37 years to teaching art across all grade levels, most recently with the Center Grove School District. She retired in 2010 and continues to inspire with her artistic endeavors.

The youngest sister, Rita (Peacock) Wells, attended Indiana Central University and married at the age of 20. She played a vital role in her husband’s business while nurturing her passion for crafts and music, performing in churches and other venues around Central Indiana. She retired in 2019 after 35 years with the family business.

The Peacock Girls’ exhibit represents a full-circle moment, showcasing their individual artistic expressions and honoring their family’s legacy. Visitors can explore a variety of artwork, from watercolor florals to intricate designs, during the library’s operating hours: – Monday through Thursday: 9 AM to 8 PM – Friday: 9 AM to 6 PM – Saturday: 9 AM to 5 PM – Sunday: 1 PM to 5 PM – Closed on July 4th.
