Seasonal Reads: Cozy Books for Fall and Winter

As the weather gets cool, and it becomes harder to find a reason to head outdoors, it becomes the perfect time to settle in with a good book. Here are some cozy titles to read while you’re staying comfy and warm.

Rougarou Magic

Rougarou Magic tells the story of Feliciana, a Cajun girl from Terrebonne Parish. After her mother and stepfather, Bob, are married, she is forced to move to Bob’s hometown of Boston. She misses the South and would gladly flee the freezing city back to her grandmother’s house in Louisiana if she could. When Feliciana is at her lowest, her grandmother sends her a mischievous monster from Cajun folklore, the Rougarou.

 

Make My Wish Come True

When Arden had the chance to pursue a career in stardom, they left for Los Angeles and didn’t look back, leaving their best friend Caroline devastated. Fast forward to the present, and Arden has a chance for the role of their dreams but can’t land the part due to their hard-partying reputation. In an attempt to prove their worth for the role, Arden heads home for the holidays and convinces Caroline to fake date for 12 days. In exchange, Caroline can write a Cosmopolitan article about the experience. Knowing this will help her career as a journalist, Caroline agrees. But as they continue through their dates, it becomes harder for the two to tell if the dating is still fake or something more.

How Do You Live?

Follow the life of 15-year-old Honda “Copper” Jun’ichi, who lives in Tokyo with his mother after his father passed. The story is told in two voices: one is that of Copper as he navigates life in pre-war Japan and the changes that come with growing up. The other is that of his maternal uncle, providing advice and observations for Copper. Over the course of the story, Copper, nicknamed after Copernicus by his uncle, uses an expansive view of the world and his daily interactions to find answers to his biggest questions.

 

White Out

Set during a historic snowstorm in the city of Atlanta, Stevie has conducted experiments for their AP chemistry project on the biochemistry of teenage love. When Stevie’s arrogant and pedantic behavior ruins the big dinner with Sola’s family, Sola, feeling angry and hurt, presents an ultimatum to Stevie: explain what happened at dinner and show that they care, or it’s over between them. With the help of friends, Stevie tries to put together the perfect romantic gesture and hopefully set things right.

As they’ve gotten older, Wren has mostly grown out of the fandom, but Cath is still all in. Now both are off to college, and Wren doesn’t want to be Cath’s roommate. This leaves Cath alone with people she doesn’t know, causing her to question if she can do this and if she is ready to live her own life.
