28 Apr Support Your Library – It Starts with You!
Libraries Make Communities Stronger — Let’s Keep It That Way!
At the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library, we’re proud to be a place where everyone is welcome. Whether you’re here to find your next great read, explore new ideas, attend a program, or access technology, we’re here to serve you—and our entire community.
Much of what we offer is made possible through a powerful partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)—a federal agency that supports public libraries nationwide.
Thanks to IMLS, we can:
- Borrow materials from libraries across Indiana through Evergreen.
- Access eBooks and audiobooks through Libby and the Indiana Digital Library.
- Use INSPIRE, a free statewide database filled with trusted research and learning tools.
- Receive materials fast through InfoExpress, Indiana’s delivery service.
- Provide services like the Talking Book and Braille Library for those with visual or print disabilities.
- Upgrade technology, train staff, and offer innovative programs.
These aren’t extras—they’re essentials. And they’re made possible by IMLS
But That Support Is at Risk.
A recent proposal would eliminate IMLS, putting many of these services in danger.
Why it matters: Libraries and IMLS work together to create strong, connected, informed communities. We need your help to protect that partnership.
How You Can Help:
- Use your library. Show your support by visiting, checking out materials, and attending events.
- Share your story. Let others know how the library has impacted your life.
- Contact your representatives. Ask them to protect library funding. Visit www.ilfonline.org/advocacy.
- Spread the word. Encourage others to stand up for their library.
Together, we can keep our library—and our community—thriving.
