25 Apr Try at Home: Tissue Box Guitar
Did you ever want to make and play your own instrument? How about a guitar? Below you will find instructions on how to make your own guitar out of a tissue box, rubber bands, paper towel roll and other supplies listed. You can use your imagination and decorate your guitar any way you like!
Instructions: Tissue Box Guitar
Supplies:
- Rubber bands of different widths
- Paper towel roll
- Rectangular tissue box
- Scissors
- Items to decorate guitar (markers, paint, stickers, etc)
- Construction paper
- Heavy tape like duct tape or strong tape
- Stapler (optional)
- Using scissors, cut the opening of the tissue box so the rectangle is a little larger.
- Trace the sizes of the top and sides of the box on construction paper. This will cover the body of the guitar. Cut the pieces you traced out.
- Decorate the paper pieces and paper towel roll any way you like (use glitter, paint, markers, etc). Let dry if necessary. Tape the pieces to the tissue box.
- Pick 4 or more rubber bands and stretch them across the tissue box. These are your guitar strings.
- Tape the paper towel roll to the side of your guitar. Make sure it is secure.
- Now you are ready to rock out!! You can use the twist tie from bread or another food item as a pick!
You can also ask yourself any of the following questions:
- Does the width of the rubber bands affect the sounds they make? If so, how?
- What would happen if I added or took away one of the rubber bands I have put on my guitar?
- Did you put your rubber bands in a certain pattern or order? What was the pattern/order?
